It's been more than a week since we played this game, but life has kept me busy, and now I'm choosing the worst time in the day to write on my blog...because I'm that smart! Not many will probably read this because everyone is in class or even hangover at this very moment, but I needed to talk about the revenge game against Edinburgh.
First of all, if you are not very interested in waterpolo or how my team does, click on the red "X" on the upper right hand corner of your screen. (Although I promise I'll try to make this story as entertaining as I can!)
If you haven't clicked on that red "X", thank you!
Just so you can understand what this post is about, we played a very biased game in Edinburgh last semester. We could've won that game, but we didn't so we were really wanting a revenge, and last Monday was THE day.
That day started being veeeeeeery busy itself... Woke up, walked to Bridge of Allan to buy some food... walked back home...made food with Lara...ate...washed the dishes... and we did something in Spain we call "sobremesa" and it's our favourite thing (NOT SIESTA), which is a table talk after eating, while drinking some coffee (we're trying to quit coffee but it's very difficult when you carry a busy life like us!). Then we just...went to my room to do nothing and post on the blog (as you could see last week). And that was our busiest day ever. So unproductive, but believe me, I'm not proud. (Maybe a bit, it's ok to have a rest from time to time).
After that I left for the game, not very motivated, since after doing NOTHING ALL DAY, one doesn't feel like doing anything actively... but so here's the report.
We started losing the 1st quarter, very tightly, but we played pretty well. Defence was good and hard, and we have a great goalkeeper, so that really helped.
2nd quarter was good too, we won that one (if I remember correctly) and our hopes and confidence were pretty high. We were winning the whole game after that. We managed to get some men ups, (also men downs...) and that's something we need to keep working on, although one of my goals was scored in one of those men ups. Woohoo!
The one I call Kezza scored 3 goals; Jeanne, one of the newbies scored 2 (well done!) so she was picked Man of the Match, I scored 2 in total (actually 3 but one was not valid because of a rookie mistake I did, not used to play out in the arch) and Bethany scored 2 from the peep! She could've scored many more, she shot many times, but she was just unlucky... And for some reason I don't remember, she was picked Dick of the Day (if anyone recalls the reason, plase write on the comments so everyone can read!). And then finally, captain Becky and wonderful Connie scored 1 each.
As I said, we were winning the whole game but fitness is not our strength, so we were getting tired towards the end of the game. When less than 2 minutes were left, we got a penalty! And the score at the moment was...10-11!!!! So whoever shot the penalty, HAD TO score. But who would take it?
No one? Kezza? Bethany? Our best scorers and shooters were just hiding and backing off! Boooo!!!!
So who got the penalty? Me. And who had to shoot? ME. Worst decision ever, really. I'm terrible at shooting, the worst! Anyone can tell. And still, they made me do it. I've never been so stressed in a game, I think I have never shot a penalty, to be honest... and that was my first one, and I was meant to draw the final score.
AND I DID.
I don't know how, but I scored! So the score was 11-11!!!!! People didn't dare to watch, so scared they were that I would miss the shot. I can't blame them, I was scared too. I would've cried if I had missed it, for sure.
Edinburgh was raging, and when only 2 seconds (2 SECONDS!!) were left of the game, they called for a time out. I don't get why they thought it could work...because it didn't!
FINAL SCORE: Edinburgh 11-11 Stirling
So I must say I'm pretty proud of our team. Edinburgh had many swimmers, and considering our fitness condition, the result is very impressive! I'm very happy to be a member of this team, in case you hadn't noticed, and in case I hadn't mentioned it before.
*Edit*: special mention to our REFEREES, because referees were the reason why we lost against Edinburgh last time, so we made sure we got pretty decent ones this time. Paul Metcalfe (International Referee) and Daniel, member of our team and referee, did a very decent job. They would never give me fouls but I must confess I sometimes fake them too much and too badly (Waterpolo league in Madrid has ruined me!)
Only problem was the table duty... no offense to anyone, but 2nd quarter 6:30min? And the shot clocks... but it's ok, we managed to fix it somehow! We won't hold grunges :)
Next game is away in Dundee, on Friday. Wish us luck! (Although we don't really need it, we are MACHINES!)
